Bettridge School COVID 19 Catchup Premium Strategy

Year 7 Catch Up Premium

The Year 7 Catch Up Premium is an additional funding to support year 7 learners who did not achieved the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of key stage 2. All year 7 learners at Bettridge qualify for this funding.

The area identified for investment in 2019/20 was reading. The money was used to purchase a new key stage 3 reading scheme from Phonics Books. The scheme has been embedded as the primary reading scheme for key stage 3.

This replaces an older scheme with more relevant, engaging and age appropriate reading material. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic measuring the impact on reading attainment is ongoing. Initial feedback suggests that learners are finding the new scheme more engaging.

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. We also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and those that have been previously looked after.

Many pupils at Bettridge including those in receipt of Pupil Premium have key objectives associated with communication and a significant number have outcomes associated with managing their behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

Therefore, the Pupil Premium income is focused on pastoral interventions, extra-curricular activities, family support and providing social communication opportunities for pupils encouraging interaction with their peers.

The impact of the Pupil Premium spending will be measured through a provision map detailing the offer for our pupils accessing pupil premium and the impact this is having on their education.

The decision as to how the Pupil Premium is spent is down to the Head, the Pupil Premium Lead and the Governing Body.
